The first week of life
Care after childbirth in the postnatal period – reimbursement by the health insurance
Infant care during the first week of life
In the first ten days after birth, you are entitled to daily care from the midwife. After the 11th day after birth, you can consult the midwife a further 16 times, either by phone or in person, until twelve weeks have passed.
During the week-long visit, I come to your home. I examine your baby, care for its umbilical cord, weigh it at intervals, and advise you on caring for and handling the baby.
You will also be examined: the involution of the uterus, the healing of any birth injuries will be closely monitored by me, just as breastfeeding, which is an important concern of mine, will be. However, even if you are unable or unwilling to breastfeed your baby, I will of course be on hand to provide advice and assistance.
Breastfeeding advice
Until the end of breastfeeding – whenever that may be – or until the 9th month after birth, you have the option to get advice on breastfeeding problems or nutritional issues. The insurance company pays for eight visits or phone calls.
